GVEI bags 78 medals at State Sqay championship | KNO

Srinagar (KNO) : Green Valley Educational Institute (GVEI), Ellahi Bagh, clinched the over all Champions Title while Pathans Martial academy came runners-up during the two-day 5th GM Dar Memorial State Sqay Championship, which concluded on Sunday at Govt College of Physical Education, Ganderbal. "We bagged 28 Gold, 18 Silver and 32 Bronze medals during the championship.

The students put their sweat and blood to triumph and rise above all," the school management said. Hundreds of Sqay fans from all over Kashmir thronged to the venue to see their favorite players competing. According to organizers, more then 700 players of various age categories participated in the championship. “Sqay is Indigenous martial art of Kashmir. J&K Sqay Association is promoting and developing the sport with meager resources.

We lack many facilities and the Govt is not extending much support to Sqay,” girl participants said, adding that the government should provide more support to Sqay players and the association in order to review the Sport. Early Nazir Ahmad Senior faculty member Government physical college Ganderbal announced the championship open.

District officers Youth services and Sports, Dr Hartaj Singh and Sheikh Mohammad Shafi President, Ganderbal sports association distributed Medals and prizes among Winners and runners-up. Nazir Ahmad Baba, Additional District Development Commissioner, was the chief guest at the concluding ceremony while as Mir Nazir, Secretary General International Council of Sqay, Muzammil Ahmad Dar, Dr Ajaz Qureshi, Sheikh Mohammad Shafi, Shah Ajaz and Firdousa were the Guests of Honour during the event.
